After World War 2 the Spanish acoustic guitar was in introduced in Kenya by Kenyan ex-soldiers. Also in the Kakamega district where the Luhya lived, the instrument became popular. It was played in much the same way as the traditional lute, the litungu. George Mukabi and Jean Bosco Mwende further popularised the instrument and especially Mukabi became very famous with his style of playing, called sukuti. When Henry Makobi was young he heard this music in the jukeboxes and learned them by heart. Later he got a guitar and started playing this old songs and making new ones himself.  Most of the songs are in the original language, a few in English
